I recently demo'd the Restoration package from Waves on my PC WinXP Digi 001 machine. During install, like an idiot, I bypassed the "Try for 14 days" option, then the install continued. The PACE interlock thing took over, my 'puter blue-screened. ooh no!!! When I re-started, no plug-ins were working, including Digi's, and I couldn't uninstall the program by normal means.

I emailed Waves tech support, and they gave me step by step on fixing it. I'm just relaying this original email, FYI, in case any of you run across the same problem. Here's the original email:

1) You will need to download the latest Pace driver.
http://www.paceap.com > Downloads > Drivers > Download "InterLok drivers installer v4.1.5.1089"

2) Install the Interlok Driver Kit and restart your computer.

3) Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove anything of Waves (Start > Settings > Control Panel)

4) Go to Program Files and delete Waves (My Computer > How to install waves plugins in windows Archives Drive > Program Files > Waves)

5) Go to DAE Plugins Folder and delete any Waveshells
(My Computer > Hard Drive > Program Files > DigiDesign Folder > DAE Folder > DAE Plugins)
If you have any trouble removing Waves from Add/Remove Programs, follow steps 6 and 7:

6) Go to Start > Run > type in "regedit"

7) Double Click HKey Local Machine > Double Click Software > Double Click Microsoft > Double Click Windows > Double Click Current Version > Double Click Uninstall > Delete (if they show up) Waves Audio Processors,
{EABA CFC4 1CB1 438E A418 OA3B21CD30D1}
and {6B7FB6C2-B673-474E-8B68-00A0BF8652DB}

8) Go to our downloads page (http://www.waves.com) and download and install Waves 3.6. Let everything go to it's default

9) If you have not authorized, how to install waves plugins in windows Archives, you will need to do so. (There are instructions on our website)

10) Make sure you only have two Waveshells inside the DAE Plugins Folder (WaveShell-DAE 3.6.dpm.rsr, WaveShell-DAE 3.6.dpm)

11) We will need to open up two Windows:
Open up My Computer > C Drive > Program Files > Waves Folder > Waves Plugins
Open up Start > Run
Drag the Unregister from the Waves Plugins Folder and drop it into the Run Prompt.
It should now say: "C:\Program Files\Waves\Plug-Ins\Unregister.exe"
You will now want to first type /unauth and then /process dsp
For the first one it should say:
"C:\Program Files\Waves\Plug-Ins\Unregister.exe" /unauth (There is a space before /unauth, and a space after it)
Then hit OK
For the second one it should say:
"C:\Program Files\Waves\Plug-Ins\Unregister.exe" /process dsp (There is a space before /process dsp, and a space after it)
Then hit OK
This should cover any possible problems
Everything should work fine after this.

I have Waves Gold, the CLA Collection, and a couple of single Waves, along with a bunch of other stuff.
I only do a scan when I get a new/upgraded plugin. Scan time is set to 5 minutes and Verbose Scan.
If I need to do a scan, I just go get a cup of coffee or something.

To load a Session takes me less than :30 seconds. Click Song Name, Yes to UAC, Start engine, hit OK, Play.
AFAICT, the easiest solution for most people is to uncheck "scan at startup."

Yes, I have read comments about Mixbus support for third party plugins. Everyone has invested in their fav plugins, and might have dropped significant amounts of cash into that. Of course you want your plugins to work. What's more important is that users can just worry about making and mixing music, instead of having to spend hours of troubleshooting. Still, your workflow will be compromised if you cannot use the plugins you know and love.

I happily had a completely working Mixbus + Waves system, and now I don't. Only after clearing the cache, ALL Waves plugs disappeared. If the Waves Central installation did something weird, would it not have affected Reaper as well? how to install waves plugins in windows Archives Going from 100% working Waveys to ZERO, is just plain silly.

As with many of us, I need to get on with work, and reverting to Reaper for the main mix (that is going to suck serious monkey balls). I will continue using Mixbus for mastering work, in which it will shine I'm sure.

This might or might not be a Mixbus related affair or just some user error. From my end, I will offer support for further testing, if Harrison would ask me Shy.

There . I feel much better now having shared my troubles Smile.
If you had similar experiences, please share.

Please can you tell me what plugin you purchased, and did you use wave central to install the plugin.

did you use waves central to install you existing waves plugins when they were working with mixbus 3.2 ok, up until you purchased the new plugin.

I have 2 locations listed for plugins in MixBus
C:\Program Files\VSTplugins
X:\Program Files\VST Plugins
I have copies of "WaveShell-VST 9.6_x64.dll" in both locations (which I copied from C:\Program Files\Waves\WaveShells V9).
I could probably delete one, but I'll leave them alone since it works now.

Interestingly, Reaper requires a completely different path setting.
X:\Program Files\VST Plugins;C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V9

" C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V9 " would be the path to the 32bit Waves plugins. Mixbus loads the 64bit ones in "C:\Program Files\Waves\WaveShells V9"

You probably shouldn't drag the .dll into your Mixbus folder; instead you should add the path "C:\Program Files\Waves\WaveShells V9" to your Mixbus plugin search path.

And that is that Smile

Have not purchased any of the newer type of waves plugins so I have just continued with the old installer 9.3, to install older type plugins. and then register license with central.

but Dont believe you need to do the high jump to get wave working in mixbus 3

Never really liked or waves central to install plugins even how to install waves plugins in windows Archives, it does install individual plugins, where as the old installer install every waves plugin again if you have purchased a new old type plugin, so you need to tick all the boxes of all the existing waves plugins you purchased plus the new plugin then install.

if you fail to tick a box then that plugins you did not tick will not be installed and this is where much of the confusion happens when the plugin does not show up in mixbus or any other DAW.

But if mixbus is happy with wave central there is no reason not to use it especially if you are after the newer type of waves plugins.

Preparation

Waves have recently revamped their licensing application again and moved from the "Waves Licence Center" (WLC) to a new "Waves Central" system.
This means if you have been a previous waves plug-in user with WLC you'll need to uninstall your current How to install waves plugins in windows Archives setup in order to use the new Waves Central.
For some this has proven a little difficult or troublesome to totally clean out the old components and has caused issues with plugins showing up in Pro Tools after installing Waves Central.
So we decided to put together this little guide to help you make sure any leftovers from WLC don't cause problems for you running Waves Central.

Uninstall Waves License Center

WLC-UninstallForWeb

First go to Windows control panel/programs and features (on your keyboard press the Windows key and type "Programs and Features" without the quotation marks) and from the list of Installed Programs

this "should" uninstall all Waves plugins from your system, and then move down to the "Post Uninstall clean-up" below.

Uninstall Waves Central

If you have already moved passed this stage and have installed Waves Central but are experiencing problems follow on with these instructions below to start again and clean up that problematic install.

Launch Waves Central,
1

Click the "Install" tab and select "Uninstall"

2

Select the tick box in the middle column labelled "All Waves Plugins V9" and click Uninstall in the bottom right corner.
This "should" remove all of the Waves Plugins on your system but we'll check that in a moment.

Central-Uninstall

You can then go to Windows control panel/programs and features (on your keyboard press the Windows key and type "Programs and Features" without the quotation marks) and from the list of Installed Programs.

Ok now we are in the position to go and clean out those possible left over files that may cause us problems later on,

The first thing to do is make sure you are able to see some hidden files that we'll need to be cleaning out - primarily what is referred to the "Waves Cache"
This is a database record of the waves plugins that have previously been scanned on the launch of Pro Tools rather like the Pro Tools plugin databases that can be trashed to fix problems.

Navigate to your Windows "Control Panel" (press the Windows Key on your Keyboard and type Control Panel and left mouse click it from the search results that appear).

4

Double click folder options,

5

click the "View" tab from the top and under "Hidden Files and Folders" select "Show hidden files, folders and drives".
Click ok and exit Control Panel.

Next we want to navigate to the following folder locations and delete the folders.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Waves Audio

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Waves Audio
And lastly you can delete the contents of theC:\ProgramData\Waves Audiofolder except the Licenses folder (you need to keep this).

And then making sure no waveshell files are presnt in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3
C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugIns
C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\WPAPI

Waveshell

Then just to make double sure you have caught everything in Windows explorer navigate to your C: system drive and in the top right corner of the Windows perform a search for how to install waves plugins in windows Archives and delete anything that comes up.

And restart your computer.

Go to Waves.com and download the latest Waves Central installer to your desktop, Right click it and select "Run as Administrator" when it has installed launch Waves Central and follow the Waves "Easy Install and Activate" guide here

Preparation

Waves have recently revamped their licensing application again and moved from the "Waves Licence Center" (WLC) to a new "Waves Central" system.
This means if you have been a previous waves plug-in user with WLC you'll need to uninstall your current WLC setup in order to use the new Waves Central.

Waveshell

Then just to make double sure you have caught everything in Windows explorer navigate to your C: system drive and in the top right corner of the Windows perform a search for "Waveshell" and delete anything that comes up.

And restart your computer.

Go to Waves.com and download the latest Waves Central installer to your desktop, Right click it and select "Run as Administrator" when it has installed launch Waves Central and follow the Waves "Easy Install and Activate" guide here
